Sherry Budziak, .orgSource FOUNDER and CEO
.orgSource entrepreneur Sherry Budziak is an innovative leader who turns strategy into results. She founded .orgSource in 2005 based on two ideas: the importance of superior customer service; and the critical role of digital transformation for associations to thrive.
Throughout her 20 years of leadership and executive consulting experience, Sherry has advised more than 200 organizations, helping them achieve their strategic objectives by identifying opportunities for innovation and product development, improving operational efficiency and effectiveness, and aligning IT resources. She brings unique insights to clients, based on a career that includes serving as the associate executive director of IT and web services for a major medical association as well as COO of its for-profit subsidiary company. Sherry has consistently been on the leading edge of innovation, having project managed one of the first--if not the first--association websites, transcended Y2K, advised organizations through the .com era and then their move to the cloud. She now is applying her wealth of experience to advise associations on "what is next."
Sherry is also the co-founder of .orgCommunity, an organization that provides new connections, inspiration and solutions to association leaders and industry suppliers through education programs, networking events and a robust online community.
Sherry is an active participant in the association community, frequently writing and speaking in addition to having served in a variety of key volunteer roles. She is the 2010 recipient of the Association Forum's John C. Thiel Distinguished Service Award, which is given annually to an individual who has demonstrated consistent and significant contributions to the association community on a volunteer basis.
Kevin Ordonez, Senior Consulting Partner - Technology Lead
For more than two decades Kevin Ordonez has been dedicated to serving the association community as a vendor partner, volunteer, speaker, author and consultant. Throughout his career he has focused on leveraging all things digital to advance the cause of associations, helping them integrate strategy, manage change and use technology to achieve their objectives.
As .orgSource’s technology lead, Kevin works with clients to envision their digital future and then guides them through the process of achieving the vision. Whether developing a digital strategy, creating a multi-year technology roadmap, focusing on a specific system implementation, or undertaking a performance improvement project, Kevin draws upon insights that can only come from someone who has the hands-on experience of working for an association, as well as the entrepreneurial spirit of a founder of leading association management software companies. In total Kevin has served 1,000s of associations, providing technology insight, product development, implementation methodologies and strategic planning.
Along with .orgSource founder and CEO Sherry Budziak, Kevin is the co-founder of .orgCommunity, an organization that provides hand-crafted connections, inspiration and solutions to association leaders and industry suppliers through education programs, networking events and a robust online community.
Kevin is an active participant in the association community, having served on the Association Forum of Chicagoland board of directors and on various volunteer committees. He frequently serves as a thought leader, lending his expertise to a variety of organizations. He also serves as an advisor to Work XO which helps companies measure, analyze and activate their organizational culture.
DAWN BRISKEY, CAE, senior CONSULTANT
Dawn Briskey has dedicated her career of 25+ years to strengthening and guiding associations, foundations, and non-profit organizations. Dawn’s experience translates into a keen understanding of what it takes to move an organization to its next level of operational excellence. Whether she is gathering and articulating requirements for a new technology platform, developing processes and plans to implement a program, or detailing and documenting the steps necessary to achieve a desired outcome, Dawn focuses on activities that strengthen an organization’s ability to meet its mission.
Before joining .orgSource, Dawn served as the deputy executive vice president of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, where she worked closely with senior staff and the board of directors for 16 years to envision and implement strategies and policies to grow the association and its related foundation. Previous employment included community-based, college, and elementary school fundraising.
Dawn has a master’s degree in nonprofit administration from Northpark University and is a Certified Association Executive. She has held leadership positions with several technology user groups over the course of her career.
ROBYN KAUFMAN, PROJECT ADMINISTRATOR
With nearly 20 years honing client content for use in journals, marketing, and self-evaluation, Robyn Kaufman guides clients to optimize their communications, review their organizational systems, and promote their messages on social media. Robyn also assists clients with event planning and selecting unique promotional merchandise.
Before joining .orgSource, Robyn received her Juris Doctor degree from Loyola University Chicago School of Law, where she was editor-in-chief of the Children's Legal Rights Journal, a legal writing tutor and the assistant to the law school's media relations director. Following graduation, Robyn worked as a county prosecutor and in private practice.
Robyn also is an active volunteer in her community. She was selected to work on her school district’s Strategic Planning Committee, served as a two-term vice president of the parent-teacher organization and functioned as the staff appreciation event planner.
Doug Klegon, Managing Director - Customer Experience and Marketing
With more than 35 years of guiding marketing and communications efforts, Doug Klegon draws upon extensive experience across a broad range of marketing elements to assist organizations in product planning, brand positioning, content strategy, digital communications and market research. He has a keen ability to analyze a variety of information/data inputs to reach conclusions and develop a concise strategy for moving forward.
Before joining .orgSource Doug was the vice president for communications and marketing for the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). Doug came to the association world after an extensive career leading marketing and communications for academic health centers, first for Henry Ford Health System and then for the Detroit Medical Center. In all his projects he demonstrates a strong focus on understanding, developing and synthesizing marketing/communication strategies and then translating those strategies into concrete tactics.
Doug is board certified in healthcare management as a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. He has held a variety of volunteer roles within the association profession. In addition, he has served on the board of Heartland Health Centers, a multi-site federally qualified health center serving Chicago's north side.
Marilyn Mages, Consultant
An experienced content marketing professional, Marilyn provides custom strategies for communications departments to ensure consistent messaging and improved user engagement for various audiences and media.
Prior to joining .orgSource, Marilyn was part of the corporate communications teams for UL, the world’s oldest safety company, and held communications positions at multiple associations such as the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, Society for Academic Emergency Medicine, Academy of General Dentistry, Independent Cosmetics Manufacturers and Distributors, and the American College of Healthcare Executives. She has facilitated website redesigns, improved social media engagement, and the production of blogs, newsletters, public relations, advertising, and education content. In addition, Marilyn is adept at using various analytic tools to manage and create high-performing content.
Marilyn is a Certified Association Executive and holds a master's degree in writing.
JESSICA SKIBA-MORGAN, MARKETING AND SOCIAL MEDIA SPECIALIST
Jessica Skiba’s passionate drive toward popular culture and its various outlets provides .orgSource with innovative marketing and digital media efforts.
Prior to joining the .orgSource team, Jessica held numerous roles as a writer, layout editor and editor-in-chief. As editor-in-chief for Ripon College, she led a complete reorganization of staff, the newspaper’s content and format as well as introduced a full-color print magazine that drew greater interest from current and prospective students and college employees. She successfully launched the paper’s first mobile website and online presence by collaborating with leaders of the radio and video organizational clubs to ensure relevant and regular broadcast content.
Jessica's experience includes working at the Birthplace of the Republican Party museum as a graphic designer and implementing the first visual database for the largest collection of ancient pottery and labrets at the San Pedro De Atacama Museum in Chile.
JIM PEARSON, CONSULTANT
Jim Pearson combines corporate experience with more than 15 years of association management and executive leadership. He brings a vigorous curiosity to improving systems and processes, as well as implementing tactical approaches to guide staff through organizational change. He is accomplished in several disciplines including education, sales, marketing, branding, communications and technology.
Prior to joining .orgSource, Jim was director of operations for the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine where he was instrumental in working with the CEO to rebuild the organization while also supervising the accounting, communications, education and technology departments. Jim served more than 10 years at the American Association of Orthodontists where he expanded online services across departments and led the selection and replacement of their Association Management System. Throughout his career, Jim has successfully taken on new initiatives, often spearheading changes in strategic direction that required writing a new playbook.
Jim is certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP), has a master's degree in education, instructional technology, and a bachelor's degree in human and organizational development. He has served as an adjunct professor for several universities. He has been an active volunteer at local and national associations, and has been a speaker at a number of conferences.
Debby Rice, Project Specialist
Debby Rice brings organizational skills developed over years of managing successful fundraising campaigns to ensure that .orgSource projects run efficiently and that clients receive outstanding customer service.
Debby has spent her career in nonprofit development, having implemented successful fundraising initiatives for the Orthopedic Research and Education Foundation, Volunteers of America of Illinois and the Parkways Foundation. Under her supervision, each organization increased revenue, volunteer commitment and impact. Before joining the .orgSource team, Debby was employed by the American Association of Endodontists as assistant executive director for development. She oversaw the activities of the Foundation for Endodontics and its board of trustees. She was hired to initiate the foundation’s first fundraising effort to support endodontic research and education. Today, over $30 million is invested and another $3.2 million is pledged.
Debby has held memberships in the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Association Forum and the Association Foundation Group, where she served as secretary and vice president.
SHARON RICE, CONSULTANT
Sharon Rice elevates the work of nonprofits and associations by creating strategies that ensure relevance and longevity while advancing their missions. Sharon focuses primarily on strategy development and executive planning to assist clients in meeting their goals. She is well-experienced in the areas of leadership and workforce development, strategic and business planning, growth strategies and comprehensive product planning, international strategies, complex project management, collaboration support (mergers & partnerships), education (certification, training & conferences), research and content development planning.
Sharon has a depth of association management experience, most recently as the vice president of strategy at APICS, the Chicago-based association for supply chain management. Before joining APICS in 2007, Sharon served as both an association executive and a consultant to nonprofit organizations at the American Express Tax and Business Services (later acquired by McGladrey). She also worked at the American Society of Clinical Pathology; the National Association of Minority Engineering Program Administrators; and the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants.
Sharon speaks and writes on topics related to association management and strategic planning. She is a former recipient of the Association Forum Supplier Partner Award recognized for her service as a consultant serving the Chicago association community. She holds bachelor degrees in political science and peace studies from Manchester University.
Heather Swink, CAE, Content and Marketing Strategist
Heather Swink helps clients not only create great content, but achieve greatness with their content. She does this by leading clients through the development and management of content strategy, performing communication audits, and optimizing content for digital vehicles. Clients also depend on Heather for copywriting and editing for numerous platforms.
Prior to joining .orgSource, Heather was executive editor of the Association Forum of Chicagoland, overseeing operations for FORUM magazine as well as advertising sales for all Association Forum products, and serving as the organization’s chief copywriter and editor. She previously worked in communications and marketing roles for the International Association of Lighting Designers and the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America. Before that, Heather was a staff reporter for the Chicago Sun-Times and Daily Herald.
Heather recently completed two terms on the Association Media & Publishing Board of Directors. In 2011, she was named an Association Trends Young & Aspiring Association Professional. Heather is a Certified Association Executive and has a master’s degree in public affairs reporting from the University of Illinois.
SUE THOMPSON, CONSULTANT
Sue Thompson has been involved in directing marketing and membership initiatives for over 20 years. She combines customer insights and practical understanding to help associations grow. Whether identifying new products and revenue opportunities, designing a comprehensive marketing and communications plan, or focusing on membership recruitment and engagement initiatives, Sue is adept at all phases of a project—from strategy to project planning and tracking.
Before joining .orgSource Sue directed branding, marketing, communications and membership for a member association, a certifying review board, and a foundation. She has experience with independent and managed associations, as well as independent publishers and publishing arms of non-profit associations. She has initiated marketing plans targeting professional audiences including physicians and clinicians from over seven different specialties. Her experience also includes marketing consumer books for the American Academy of Pediatrics’ (AAP) book publishing division.
In addition to her degree in journalism and market communications, Sue has earned a “Direct and Interactive Marketing” certification from DePaul University and an “Executive Leadership” certificate from Cornell University. She also is active in her church, teaching and conducting workshops and Bible studies for women.
BETH WELCH, CONSULTANT
Beth Welch has an extensive background in association management and as an entrepreneur. She offers exceptional insight into technology and digital content strategies. With her mastery of the complete product cycle from planning and budgeting through implementation and launch, Beth provides organizations the support they need to efficiently and effectively achieve their goals and objectives.
Beth started her career in the not-for-profit sector, working in various capacities including membership, education and health and science policy. Her experience and insight led her to an association management company where she managed a small association. Noticing an absence of professional and affordable digital delivery for educational content in the not-for-profit sector, Beth founded a full-service technology company focusing on medical education and dedicated to producing innovative and engaging learning solutions. In addition to being a skilled content developer, Beth has successfully deployed dozens of innovative products across varied media, including creating marketing, sales, and distribution strategies.
Beth is a graduate of the University of Iowa. A truly multi-talented team player, Beth provides management and support of projects from A-to-Z.
